3 concepts from the vodcast article

The main concept that I learned from this article was the idea of using the creation of a podcast/vodcast for collaboration by students. I believe that when students are brainstorming ideas this gives them the chance to learn on so many different levels. Each student brings their own life experiences to the conversation. At a high school level, usually, students believe that their way is the only way. This collaboration allows the students to listen to others ideas, hear other life experiences, and receive constructive criticism. It also allows them to learn to get along and compromise with others. Allowing the students to work on their own teaches them a little self direction and self control with guidance from their teacher.
Another valuable reason to bring vodcasting into the classroom is, of course, the introduction of technology. Using a visual and auditory tool like this in your classroom will surely stimulate learning of your lesson. It will appeal to the more creative, musical and artistic learner, as well. I do believe we have to keep in mind that some students may be intimated by the process. So, there does have to be some sort of technologic support. If not by the teacher maybe a tutorial from the technology department. Also, I think there maybe great value for some of our special needs students. Vodcasting seems like a great opportunity for a cross curriculum project. After educating myself more in the use of technology in the classroom I would love to have a few single and group vodcast projects in my curriculum. The reason for this is for all the reasons I mentioned in the above paragraph. In health care we must learn how to listen to the ideas of others, collaborate and create the best way to treat and care for our patients.
The last concept I liked from the article was the idea of sharing information with others at a more convenient time for the learner. It was interesting how they used vodcasts to alleviate the anxiety of their learners. This idea of learning at a more convenient time can also be helpful in the classroom if someone has missed a significant amount of time due to illness or injury and again may be stimulating for the special needs students.
